Paddle Against Breast Cancer

It was a beautiful early Sunday morning at Manila Bay, the sun was out and the sea breeze was surprisingly fresh and cool. The day was even made brighter by the smiles of amazing and awesome breast cancer survivors. Woman's courage, empowerment and bravery is something that we watched from Oprah's show. It is not every day I meet with women who are fighting a very good fight and who are keeping their faith amidst everything and still have the most beautiful smiles. They moved me. I can barely hold my tears when we offered flowers and sing a beautiful song for those who succumbed to The Big C. A survivor said, ‘they may have lost the battle but we will win the war’. A survivor I spoke to said that ‘yup, time is short but if we live it to the fullest it doesn't really matter. What matter is how we live it.’ A cliche, yes. But how true it is and how determined they are in living their life to the fullest.

Carpe diem sisters!! Let's paddle against breast cancer and celebrate life!

We owe it to ourselves ladies and to our loved ones to be aware and to encourage others to raise awareness about the disease. The World Health Organization reports that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. The cancer claims hundreds of thousands of women each year from different countries. Increased awareness and early detection can save our lives.

Did you know?

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer

A healthy diet & exercise routine can reduce your chance for breast cancer by nearly 40%

When caught early, breast cancer has a 98% survival rate

Nearly 85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer DO NOT have a family history

Breast cancer survivor testifies: ‘I am not particularly hopeful that dragonboat racing will help prevent recurrence of breast cancer. However, it seems evident that strenuous upper-body exercise, when properly trained for, has no adverse effects regarding lymphodema, and can be successfully undertaken by women who have undergone a radical mastectomy.

It is a great feeling to know that we can participate in, and even excel, in such a demanding sport, Dragonboat racing gives a boost to the self-confidence and self-esteem of women living with breast cancer.’

The Manila Dragons will conduct training for BCS for the whole month of November. This will be in preparation for the very first BCS dragon boat crew  for the December 6, 2014 race. Amazing. A team of professional, award-winning rowing team is paddling the waters for breast cancer awareness. Thank you Manila Dragons Dragonboat Rowing Team!
